{organic shapes and textures in 2 new thibaut books}

Natural, organic shapes and textures have been on-trend for months (in case you haven’t noticed all of our blogs on the topic), and now Thibaut has their own bold, beautiful contributions to offer. We just love their new books, Greenwood and  Texture Resource Vol. 5.

Greenwood

Thibaut says this wonderful collection of traditionally rooted patterns is inspired by travels to coastal Australia, Africa, and the brilliant British Isles. The spirited large-scale designs of wallpaper and print and embroidered fabrics include striking zebra stripes. classic paisleys, and invigorating jewel-tone palettes, along with deep blues and rainforest greens.

Among the natural inspirations, Venus evokes memories of marble walls from castles and estates. This stunning pattern simulates a marble texture but is smooth and chic. Read the rest of this entry »

{friday finds: new wallpapers with classic inspirations]

What’s “old” is new again in wallcoverings. New collections from York and Thibaut both draw inspiration from classic, old towns — York’s latest WILLIAMSBURG collection and Thibaut’s Bridgehampton. Both books display a timeless style and elegance, with contemporary colors and grace.  Here’s a look at our favorite designs:

WILLIAMSBURG II by York Wallcoverings

York recently launched its second “Trend Meets Tradition” collection with WILLIAMSBURG, the licensing division of the not-for-profit Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. Like York’s first WILLIAMSBURG collections, each of the 16 patterns in the new wallpaper book is inspired by an antique object, design, or motif found in Colonial Williamsburg’s archives.

Reflecting the colonial-era interest in patterns derived from Asian and particularly Chinese art and décor, the new collection includes several chinoiserie-inspired patterns, including Brazanga (above), and Chinese Peony (below). Read the rest of this entry »

{friday finds: a new twist on damask in thibaut’s new book}

The latest collection from Thibaut Design has a familiar name, but Damask Resource Vol. 4 features a unique style that starts with the traditional Damask pattern and then introduces new colorways and innovative print treatments. The dramatic designs range from classic interpretations to modern shapes in sizable proportions and include printed corks, embossed vinyl, luxurious metallics, and flocked patterns.

The symmetrical layout of Passaro Damask features birds and other grand scrolls with luxurious colorways, like Metallic Pewter on Seafoam and Metallic Gold on Red.

In the red, a truly happy color, the detail of the birds and foliage really stands out. Kathy Basil of our Hirshfield’s Design Studio recommended a pattern very similar to Passaro Damask in a small powder room recently, and she said it looks beautiful, with a very “luxe” feel. {wallcovering wednesday: discovering thibaut’s trade routes}

If you love traveling to exotic places (or just dreaming about it), Thibaut Design has a book for you. Thibaut’s new Trade Routes collection of coordinating wallpaper, print and embroidered fabrics was inspired by handcrafted and primitive techniques from faraway places.

For example, Goa (below), a stunning pattern named after the beautiful beach town in India that has colorful buildings and palm trees, and at one time had wild cows roaming freely along its beaches.
