Gingham Takes Fashion Home
The theme in this Spring’s fashion runways – from Diane von Furstenberg to Michael Kors to Oscar de la Renta – was the return of the check. From simple, traditional gingham designs to bold, broad checkerboard patterns, designs were fresh and breezy.
How might this be interpreted in your home fashion? Check out some of these interior ideas.
Broad gingham prints can evoke that cottage or beach feeling in a room, particularly when partnered with classic pieces of furniture or pickled floors. Here, the breezy cerulean drapes are a perfect counterpoint to the lighter blue gingham chair.
Thibaut’s Netherlands Check can add flair to a new or a reupholstered accent chair.
Designer Jenny Laduko from J. Banks Design suggests in her blog, The Design Dish, “Try painting gingham on the walls in a neutral color. This would be fabulous backdrop to sleek contemporary furnishings.”
Walls can also deliver that tasteful fresh checkerboard feeling through the use of wallpaper. Here, Thibaut’s boathouse big check in a soft green.
Floors can also pack a patterned punch. Check out the marble gingham patterned flooring for a strong statement.
Looking for a masculine bedroom treatment? Checks and gingham in strong neutrals or blue are a great alternative to the go-to solids. Bolsters and pillows can round out the effect.
