{design trends to watch in 2017}

As one year ends another begins, but design trends don’t necessarily follow the rules of a calendar. According to our team at the Hirshfield’s Design Studio, some of the most popular looks were already gaining steam at the end of 2016. Here are our 2017 design trend picks:

Seeing Green

Green was definitely the “it” color at the end of 2016. The Color Marketing Group picked Thrive as the North American Key Color 2017+ and we featured Mother Nature 0746 as our Hirshfield’s Color of the Month for October. Then Pantone picked Greenery as its 2017 Color of the Year.

The attraction of all these greens is obvious. The lush look of nature. The fresh feeling of spring. With a cold winter upon us, these greens are a reminder of nature’s ability revive, refresh, and restore.  So, just like Pantone’s 2016 Colors of the Year Rose Quartz and Serenity, which picked up traction in 2016 and we’re seeing everywhere, we expect the popularity of greens to keep growing.  Read the rest of this entry »

{pantone 2017 color of the year: greenery}

As we turn the corner of a new year with biting cold and heavy snowfalls here in the Upper Midwest, one way to warm up a bit is to discuss Greenery, the 2017 Pantone Color of the Year.

Pantone’s official announcement even mentioned spring as the inspiration: “Greenery is a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew.”

It’s no surprise that Pantone picked a green tone. The Color Marketing Group picked Thrive as the North American Key Color 2017+, and we featured a green, Mother Nature 0746, as the Hirshfield’s Color of the Month for October.

The allure of green is the tie to nature and its feeling of rebirth and renewal. Pantone describes Greenery as “nature’s neutral, a versatile trans-seasonal shade that lends itself to many color combinations.” Read the rest of this entry »

And now you can achieve that look without a hammer and nails. These super-realistic photo murals and ultra-detailed wood grain wallcoverings let you change looks as quickly as you can change papers.

{wallcovering wednesday: industrial inspiration}

The hottest look in wallcoverings doesn’t look like wallpaper, at all.  Stone, brick and other industrial inspirations are part of these popular new designs. York’s Urban Chic collection draws on raw, unfinished warehouse looks and street scenes with “Brick”, “Pound the Pavement,” and “Street Art.”

Brewster Brings the Bohemian Chic with Kismet Collection

For those of you who survived the 80s decorating palette, it may be difficult for you to think you’d ever plaster another room with wallpaper. Remember the flowery patterns and the bold (let’s call them vivid) colors? Yikes, I think we all still remember some atrocious patterns in bedrooms, kitchens and dining rooms across the Twin Cities.
