{deck cleaning and staining for spring}

Spring is here, which means it’s time to clean the decks in Minnesota – literally. “We have a lot of people wanting to freshen them up,” says Nate Sockness, manager of Hirshfield’s Woodbury location, “and also a lot of people wanting to get them done before high school graduation season.”

That deck work is happening right now. It’s prime time for deck cleaning and staining, he says, because you need two or three days of warm, dry weather to do it right. Keep your eye on the weather and use Nate’s tips for cleaning and staining your deck.

{friday finds: stop right there! before you go any further…with your deck}

Advertised in the Lowe’s circular last week was a product from Cabot Stain called Express Deck Wood Stain. It states in the description you can clean and stain your deck in just one day. Do not be lured in by the promise of a good looking deck in one day. It won’t happen, people. Do not take shortcuts when it comes to cleaning and staining your deck. The key to a quality finish, which stands up to the Minnesota elements, is proper preparation. It will take time and elbow grease.

On the Hirshfield’s website you will find great information on deck care. The Hirshfield’s blog has a couple videos and a post which you’ll find at www.hirshfields.wordpress.com. Or do as I do, I go to my local Hirshfield’s (Roseville rocks) place my projects in the very capable hands of my Hirshfield’s co-workers. I take full advantage of their expertise on application and products.

As soon as the weather warms up to a surface temperature of 50°, and stays that temperature for at least 24 hours, then you can start thinking about tackling your deck. Before you start your project call Hirshfield’s to find out which deck care products we have on sale.

Hirshfield’s carries an assortment of superior deck products:  Cabot Stain, Sikkens, ABR, Benjamin Moore ArborCoat™, and Super Deck.

All of us at Hirshfield’s appreciate your support of a local company.
