{friday finds: 2015 pantone color of the year}

Design World Reacts to Marsala

The 2015 Pantone Color of the Year exploded onto the scene with plenty of fanfare. Marsala is a rich, earthy red, inspired by the fortified Sicilian wine. It invokes sophistication and natural earthiness with its deep hues.

The color is “nurturing and fulfilling,” says Leatrice Eiseman Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “Marsala is a natural fit for the kitchen and dining room – making it ideal for tabletop, small appliances and linens throughout the home.”

Pantone’s pick is one of the most anticipated design announcements each year, influencing fashion, beauty, interior design and home furnishings. Of course, it didn’t take long for the reviews – and product placements – to start rushing in.

Here’s a roundup:

House Beautiful

Eight rooms, eight designers, and one rich, earthy hue. House Beautiful shows how Marsala can transform a room: bedroom, living room, kitchen and more!

The Today Show

On the highly-rated morning show, NBC’s Carson Daly modeled Marsala on his necktie, and showcased it with other props. Calling Pantone the leading authority on hues used in paint, fabrics and manufacturing, writer Emily Sher offers a snapshot of the far reaching impact of Marsala in retail. Expect to see it everywhere, from coffee makers to pillows and jewelry and fashion.

Sephora

Marsala as makeup. Sephora quickly offered a complete beauty shop inspired by the 2015 Pantone Color of the Year.

InStyle

See how Marsala flows on celebrities and models. Designers are using this rich color in their clothing lines, calling it a nice departure from the neons.

Apartment Therapy

The apartment-focused design site featured Marsala at home, with photos of real life rooms warmed up by this deep earthy tone in a variety of uses.
