Once November starts, it’s Thanksgiving prep time, then the holidays are here and then the new year. Ready or not, the year is wrapping up. What were some of the top window treatment trends of 2013?
Natural organics. Window treatments that evoked feelings of the outdoors and nature were still a big trend this year. From natural, woven materials to bamboo, people gravitated toward organic materials that added a sophisticated yet soothing look to their homes.
Color added. Homeowners felt more daring and added splashes of color via window treatments. Dining rooms, which have harder surfaces, were a good place to showcase luxurious patterns and colors, adding a softer element. Bedrooms were a good place for bright, unexpected reds or other colors that added visual pop.
Simple, Clean Lines. Busy people found simple, sleek lines appealing in their Minneapolis window coverings. Clean lines with panel track systems were a good choice, as were draperies with simple grommets.
Bigger Styles. Window treatments continued to grow in scale. Cellular shades that look like Roman shades were popular this year.
Sheers. As the hours of daylight shortened, we gravitated toward lighter sheers that helped us take advantage of those short and sweet sun-filled hours. Sheers also helped smaller rooms seem more spacious by letting in more sunlight. Sheers that were two-toned or came in richer colors were popular this year.
Creative hardware. Windows got extra oomph by adding visual interest with new hardware choices and materials. Rods, finials and tiebacks came in a variety of options from wood to glass and added a new element to many windows in 2013.
