{holiday home memories}

Home is Where the Heart Is…

I grew up the youngest of 14 kids, and to be sure, Christmas was my favorite of all holidays.  The anticipation every year was enough to send me over the edge!

We didn’t have much money, but Mom went all out at Christmas to make it extra special, and to be sure there was at least one thing we REALLY wanted from our Santa list under the tree.  She (and some of her older elves) would work feverishly into the wee hours on Christmas Eve, as we tried to sleep amidst the excitement, to get everything ready.

And then my favorite part – the big Christmas morning reveal.  Mom would completely cover the entrance to the living room, from floor to ceiling, using a large, long roll of yellow paper that I can still remember perfectly even to this day.  Then, on Christmas morning when we woke up, we had to wait for the signal, and then we burst through that yellow paper to see the magic that lay behind it.

And more than any singular gift I ever received, what I will always remember is the anticipation, joy and excitement of our grand entrance on Christmas morning.
