{wallpaper week: fougere wallpaper by romo}

Wallpaper Week has taken us to the Netherlands, United States, and today, the United Kingdom with the Fougere Collection.

Just like the Thibaut and Eijffinger books, Romo showcases a prominent array of geometric patterns, variations on the trellis design, colorful large-scale florals, and the use of heavy metals. The vivid colors in the Fougere collection are inspired from the Royal Botanical gardens of Europe; interesting to see the strong presence of the “grape” and darker neutrals in the European lines. {custom window treatments by Hirshfield’s}

As the employees at Hirshfield’s can attest, there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing a room transform from the “before” to the “after.” Whether that means simply applying a fresh coat of paint to the walls, adding a new rug to anchor a room or, in this case, adding custom window treatments to complete the look of a space.

Hirshfield’s customer, Sharon, worked with Dawn in the Hirshfield’s Shop at Home department to create these beautiful custom, Accordia Fold window treatments.

Dawn was very helpful in going over all the options with me, and then in deciding the details of the draperies. It took awhile for me to find the right fabric, and she was very patient and helpful along the way.
- Sharon

Sharon said the reason she was shopping for new window treatments was because of a larger renovation project they were doing on their house – replacing all of the windows and doors. The new windows would be a different size, so the wood shutters you see in the photo above would no longer work.

{wallpaper week: club by eijffinger}

“You have to see the book in person, it’s nothing like anything we have had before.” Hirshfield’s Design Studio

 From Gothic to glam, the mix of patterns in the CLUB collection lends to both residential or commercial spaces. The purple hologram, mirrored bubbles, and reflective foils would work well in a restaurant, bar, lobby, or club. Other patterns are sophisticated in color and design giving your home a stunning contemporary feel. Read the rest of this entry »

{wallpaper week: jubilee wallcovering by thibaut}

Ingrid wallpaper & Cayman fabric

Guadeloupe wallpaper

…the Jubilee Collection by Thibaut is chic gathering of patterns and colors sure to inspire.  Painted in pastoral hues, worldly motifs are translated upon sleek, tactile grounds in a great array of textures, shapes and styles.

Jubilee Collection is Thibaut’s newest wallcovering (and fabric book) hot off the press…so hot, it is not due into our stores until next week.

The color palette offers a wide range from neutrals to refreshing brights. You’ll find classics like the ikat, trellis, and an updated antique crewel pattern. Throw a monkey into the mix and you’ll have a chinoiserie wallpaper gracing your bathroom walls. Read the rest of this entry »

{basic black}

As I was stumbling through StumbleUpon.com the other day, I came across a blog post that caught my eye – Paint it BLACK by LiveLikeYou.com. Not only were the pictures stunning, but the question posed by the author got me thinking – “I wondered why we wear this beautiful non color for mourning.  Black is beautiful, black is elegant, black is classy, black is subdued, black is striking, black is fashionable, black is sophisticated, black is severe…but is black sad?”

After looking at these photos I could describe black as dramatic, daring and haunting, but I don’t think I would classify it as sad. What do you think?

I have deemed this week “Wallpaper Week.” Why? Because I have images from five incredible wallpaper collections to share.  According to our store personnel, more and more people are coming in and asking for help selecting wallpaper. I’m hoping you’ll see a room setting which inspires you to get excited about wallpaper. Whether you are a wallpaper newbie or always had wallpaper in your home, Hirshfield’s staff will help you find the perfect paper for your home and your personality. Read the rest of this entry »

{bachman’s fall ideas house}

Bachman’s Fall Ideas House “A Transition of Seasons & Styles” September 15, 2011 – October 9, 2011

Guess what?  If your name is drawn, the contents of the sunroom (above) can be yours! No purchase necessary, just enter your name in the drawing at Bachman’s on Lyndale. And Hirshfield’s is giving away four gallons of the wall color 0634 Day Spa.

Decorative doors from the Wisconsin State Capital used in the living room vignette on the right. The coffee table is made from windows and salvaged wood filled with vintage print blocks.

Teaching your little genius numbers, words, and the alphabet would be easy peasy in this pre-schoolers bedroom.

Gorgeous antique armoire painted glossy white with a customized interior. The detailing on the front of the armoire adds to its charm.

Fall tablescape in the dining room.

This room is called the “casual office & family room.” The paint used in this room can’t decide if it wants to be a gray, green or beige, which makes it a perfect bridging color. The saying on the pillow has me thinking:

“When was the last time you did anything for the first time?”

There is so much more to see inside and outside at the Fall Ideas House. It’s always fun to see what, and how, the staff repurposed all the pieces (for sale) throughout the house. I guess that’s why they call it the “Ideas House.”

Bachman’s suggests calling in advance for your ticket and remember they are not open on Mondays and  the last tour slot is at 5:00. I have not run into crowds on my visits as I try and go at the end of the day. If you’ve never been through the house, remember the saying on the pillow, “When was the last time you did anything for the first time?”

Number one question asked of the “keepers of the castle” at the Bachman’s ideas house?

What color is the paint…?

The paint is brought to you by Hirshfield’s and Benjamin Moore.

{friday finds: design studio sample sale}

Tomorrow is the last day of the sample sale at the design studio and I was surprised they still have high-end, custom sofas, with great prices, left on the floor. Hence at the last-minute, I changed the friday find to the sample sale. Sorry I don’t have all the intel, as I was over there just when they were closing up shop.

The sale items are marked up to 65% off and the non-sale items are 30% off tomorrow.

The showroom is open this Saturday, 9:oo am – 1:00 pm. Here is your opportunity to visit the showroom as they normally are not open on Saturdays.

Gray sofa, nail head arm detail, larger linen-like weave $900 (includes pillows)

Arm detail from above $900 sofa

Pink velvet sofa $1,650

Chocolate sofa, linen-like weave, nail head arm detail, smaller scale $800

There are two of these plush, custom sofas available. In this photo the fabric may look like a ultrasuede, but it is a small diamond pattern. Very comfy as a napping, snuggling, and TV watching sofa. $900/each (It’s a steal)

The fabric on this sofa is similar to a silk velvet – low profile, tufted sides, wood arms  $1,900

How lovely is the patina on this sofa table?

Re-purposed, reclaimed, one-of-a-kind sofa table not on sale, but 30% off tomorrow. I had to share, it’s my favorite piece in the showroom.

In addition to the sofas, dining room sets, tables, accessories, custom upholstered chairs, chandeliers, lamps, and artwork are also on sale. I’m not saying, I’m just saying, I may have overheard some negotiating taking place when I was at the showroom yesterday. Go for it.

{bogo: weather king II exterior paint}

Jay LaMotte and Peter Goldsmith hard at work.

Did you get your exterior painting projects finished this summer?

I’m still working on mine; I think we can all use the same excuse; the weather did not cooperate at all. It was too wet, for way too long, then too hot; but these past few weeks have been perfect painting weather.

I called the professionals after I noticed a couple spots starting to pop on the south side of my house. After checking out the house, only the south side needed a new coat of paint, as the rest of the house was still in good shape. (Yeah) The shakes on the house are sixty years old and we waited too long before we painted the last time, and we did not want to make the same mistake. Shame on us.

If you’ve got an exterior painting project you’ve been putting off all summer, now is the time to tackle it! Not only does the cooler weather make for perfect painting conditions, but a buy-one-get-one-free offer from Hirshfield’s doesn’t hurt either!

Our premium quality professional exterior 100% acrylic paint is specially formulated to provide low temperature application and quick curing, resulting in good resistance to early moisture exposure.
